Biographical Info:

My name is David (Dave) Berns. I am a retired software developer, who has had an interest in astronomy for most of my life.

Starting as a kid of about 8 or 9 years of age, armed with a cheap department store telescope, a library card, and a desire to know what is out there, I set out to explore the universe. Through the years, my knowledge increased, and my telescopes have gotten bigger, and better. But more importantly, I found that I enjoyed sharing my years of hard-won and self-taught knowledge of the wonders of the universe with others.

I have been married to beautiful bride, Diana, for 45 years. We have 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

Diana and I love to cruise, and do so several times a year since we retired. Currently we have been on 51 cruises and have 5 more on the books so far for the remainder of 2024 and 2025 - with more to come undoubtedly

In addition, I am an instrument-rated private pilot. A prosumer-level photographer specializing in landscape, seascape, and sunset/sunrise photos. I also enjoy building scale models depicting the United States space program.

To Purchase or Examine any of our Telescopes or Accessories, call Jim Wehmer 217-714-7786. He has most of this equipment at his house or can retrieve it from the observatory for you. Arrange a time to go to his house and he will place it on his front porch for you to examine or take home to try it out. Because of the virus, this way the social interactions will be very safe.
