Foreword by Joseph Ashbrook, Editor of "Sky & Telescope". 13pp.booklet, index sheet, 152 plates, catalogue cards. Black cardboard tray in blue slipcasePublisher: M I T, Cambridge , Mass.
The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Star Atlas has been prepared by the staff of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Available in this atlas are magnitude, spectral class (in most cases), precise coordinates, proper motion, and Durchmusterung number. The total number of atlas stars slightly exceeds 260,000. It can be used by the professional astronomer to work on asteroids, comets, or artificial satellites. The atlas is nearly complete to visual magnitude 9 but contains many fainter stars to 11. SAO star chart--1967; equinox and epoch 1950.0; FK4 system; scale 6'.95/mm. Projections: Stereographic polar, Lambert conic, or Mercator. Includes an overlay "Interpolation reseaux." Bibliography included. DETAILS: Folio. 15 x 12.5 x 2 inches (38 cm.). 1 case (2 charts, 152 plates). All plates and charts are present as is the 13pp introductory pamphlet.
